2011 General Connectional Board CED Report

As presented by Dr. Carmichael Crutchfield, General Secretary during The Annual Spring Meeting of the College of Bishops and the Annual Meeting of the General Connectional Board of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church held in Memphis, Tennessee at the Memphis Airport Hotel.  From May 2 - 5, 2011, Senior Bishop Thomas L. Hoyt, Jr. and Host Bishop Lawrence L. Reddick, III facilitated worship and business meetings for the 300+ attendees.

As an ending note to the Department of Christian Education’s Annual Report, Dr. Carmichael D. Crutchfield and Dr. Willa M. Ross received the God and Service Award from the Programs of Religious Activities with Youth (P.R.A.Y.) arm of the Boy & Girl Scouts of America of the U.S.A.    Dr. Crutchfield hosted his Department Chair Bishop Thomas L. Brown, Sr., former Chairman Bishop Othal H. Lakey, members of the CME General Connectional Board of Christian Education, and his CED Connectional Officers and staff for their annual meeting on May 3, 2011 at the Memphis Airport Hotel.  Rev. R. Chip Turner, P.R.A.Y. Director of Communication & Training, was a guest presenter sharing the background of the program as well as “life-changing” testimonials from P.R.A.Y. participants.  He surprised the audience by asking Chairman Bishop Brown and former Chairman Bishop Lakey to join him in recognizing the leadership and commitment to youth that Drs. Crutchfield and Ross have given in behalf of the CME Church.  In addition to the certificate, the celebrants received a medal that can be worn around the neck.  The God and Service Award is a national recognition awarded by churches and national youth agencies cooperating in Programs of Religious Activities with Youth (P.R.A.Y.). It is given for distinguished service by adults in ministry to young people through service to the Church and one or more of the national youth agencies (Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of the U.S.A., Camp Fire USA, American Heritage Girls).   Dr. Carmichael Crutchfield is the General Secretary Department of Christian Education for the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church.  Dr. Willa M. Ross is a long-time CED Team Member and former Executive Assistant who now pastors the Collins Chapel CME Church in Memphis, Tennessee.  For more information visit www.praypub.org or www.thecmechurchced.org .
